Behavior Expectations
The entire school behavior policy can be found on the Wake Forest Elementary School website under Our School Positive Behavior Intervene. Our school has adopted the "Capturing Kids Hearts" program. Here is a bit of information on the program
"This amazing program outlines a process staff can use to help build meaningful connections with students. The goal is to capture kids’ hearts in order to capture their minds. Research shows that when students feel more connected to their school and staff, they achieve higher academic success and are less likely to have attendance, tardy, or behavioral issues. "
Our class will build a social contract with your child's help within the first week or two of school. This will help students reflect on the behaviors that are important to each of them in the classroom. Once we have agreed upon the social behaviors that we want to be subject to in the classroom we will all sign the agreement. It is my goal as a teacher to teach students to follow appropriate social rules because they understand the effects of a safe and fun learning environment rather than due to a fear of negative consequences. Should there become a scenario where specific attention is needed, I will meet with individual parents to determine the best course of action for the student. I do not believe in a "One program fits all" approach. Please feel free to contact me with and questions or concerns.
Please Note: Our class does not use a class DOJO or other constant monitoring program. Students who make small judgement errors in my class are encouraged to correct the behavior and get back on track through positive reinforcement. I do not contact parents daily regarding behavior. I will contact parents if major behaviors warrant.
